Thread: The Obama Administration rejected the Keystone oil pipeline

Default The Obama Administration rejected the Keystone oil pipeline

President Barack Obama said the administration denied TransCanada's application for the $7 billion Canada-to-Texas oil sands pipeline because there was not enough time to review an alternate route that would avoid a sensitive aquifer in Nebraska.

Canada has said the uncertainty will cause it to intensify efforts to sell more crude to China.

Good Im happy it got rejected. The pipeline will only increase gas prices for Americans—Especially Farmers by draining Midwestern refineries of cheap Canadian crude into export-oriented refineries in the Gulf Coast.

I agree, the Keystone pipeline is an economic and environmental disaster in the making.

The only thing Keystone XL does is let the Canadians sell the oil to the Chinese over our land, instead of a more expensive and troublesome route over the Rockies.

Of course the oil is going to China. Petro-China has pretty much bought up most of the oil-sands region for billions of dollars.

Yeap, this pipeline wouldn't help America in the least. It was all about getting the oil to the gulf to ship internationally. While in the process destroying our landscape and polluting our land.

Cue the Republicans saying that Obama is killing jobs and furthering unemployment. Now they love construction jobs. When Obama proposed creating construction jobs building bridges and freeways, they said that construction jobs were temporary and would not significantly help unemployment.

Contaminating the Ogallala Aquifer would have dire consequences for the entire country. I understand that pipelines have an excellent safety record, but why on earth would we want to risk that at all? A large percentage of cereal grains and beef are produced from the Midwest and the aquifer is the reason it is possible.

Keep in mind the Obama Administration's rejection of the pipeline was largely procedural. It was not primarily driven by environmental reasons, but rather, it was the inevitable result of a political trap which forced the president into a corner. Essentially, a bill was passed by the house that required the administration to make a "yes or no" decision in just 60 days. The real kicker, however, is that the state of Nebraska had already rejected the proposed route through their state. The oil company has been busy working out a new route, and a revised proposal will be submitted shortly. So of course Obama was not able to accept it, as every congressman who passed the bill two months ago knew. A total dick move, but one that the Republicans will make significant political gains on.

You know Nebraska already has 6 major pipelines going through that area already right?
